- Ken Chaves passed on October 25. There will be a memorial on Friday, November 1st, at Cobblestone Farm 2781 Packard Rd., Ann Arbor, MI 48108 from 4:30 until 8:00pm. Ken Chaves has been a large part of the Skilled Trades Union as former Union President and various other positions over the years. Ken was very involved with the JAC and many contract negotiations, we can’t thank Ken enough for his contributions to our organization over the years. Many of you know that Ken retired early due to health issues he had been battling for years. Obituary
- Bryan Anthony Olvera, 43 years, of Toledo, OH passed away Saturday, September 14, 2024 in his home. The son of Victor Fred and Toni G. (Reeves) Olvera, he was born December 8, 1980 in Toledo, OH. After graduating Start High School in 1999, Bryan started his electrical career in the Local 8 IBEW Residential Electrician Apprenticeship Program. He was currently employed at The University of Michigan as a fire alarm electrician. Prior to being hired at that historical institution for which he was very proud to be a part of, he was employed for 10 years as a maintenance electrician at Canberra Corp, where he made many lifelong friends. Bryan was a big fan of the Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Guardians and of all things Maize and Blue, especially U of M Football. Born on the day John Lennon died, he was also a huge Beatles fan. He is survived by his loving parents, Victor and Toni; son, Blake (Emma Johnson) Olvera; sister, Brianne Olvera; grandparents, Victor and Bertha Olvera; nieces, Isabella and Chloe Rischman; longtime friend and roommate, Vincent Cope and dog, Maggie; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who he all loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Felix and Rebecca Reeves and beloved dog, Brady. Visitation will be Friday, September 20, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Urbanski’s Bedford Funeral Chapel 8300 Lewis Ave. Temperance, MI where the funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Cremation will follow. - Bob Dunlap Age 59, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 16, 2024. Bob was a long standing member of UMSTU. He started working in Maintenance in the Hospital Plumbing shop and was currently working out of F & O Central Mechanical Systems Shop. Bob will be missed and was taken way too soon. John Trombley was voted in by the E-Board to fill the vacant E-Board Positions. Trombley is a UMSTU Electrician at Housing. Trombley has been a Steward for many years.
